Idiot Wonks and the Definition of "Pregnant"

Access Denied
Lacey's pharmacist and Kelley's doctors are among hundreds, perhaps thousands, of physicians and pharmacists who now adhere to a controversial belief that birth control pills and other forms of hormonal contraception--including the skin patch, the vaginal ring, and progesterone injections--cause tens of thousands of "silent" abortions every year. Consequently, they are refusing to prescribe or dispense them.
'Scuse me, but isn't progesterone supposed to keep ovulation from ever occuring?  And the pill (most of the time, I guess)?  And even if the pill doesn't prevent ovulation from occuring 100% of the time, isn't the clinical definition of "pregnant" when the fertilized egg implants in the uterine wall and doesn't the pill prevent that from happening?  How can you "abort" a pregnancy that never happened?  Should someone perhaps inform this brain-trust of pharmacologists of the definition of "abort"?

What's more, oral contraceptives aren't only used to prevent pregnancy. The Pill may cut the risk of ovarian cancer by up to 80% and is used by women at high genetic risk for this hard-to-detect and usually fatal cancer. "There are easily more than 20 noncontraceptive uses for the Pill in common practice," says Giovannina Anthony, MD, an attending physician of obstetrics and gynecology at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York City. "This drug saves women from surgery for gynecological conditions like endometriosis, fibroids, and severe bleeding and pain."
Doesn't matter.  Backwards idealogies and myth-beliefs always trump freedom and public health.

Most women's doctors agree that contraceptives are an important tool of good medical care. "I have a hard time with people who market themselves as women's health care physicians but who won't prescribe such a basic part of women's health care," says Anne Drapkin Lyerly, MD, a reproductive rights ethicist and an assistant professor of obstetrics and gynecology at Duke University Medical Center.
Exactly!  If you don't feel you can uphold all aspects of women's health, don't go into the field!

"We're seeing a growing trend among pharmacists and medical practitioners who consider it acceptable to impose their morality on women's bodies. I don't think moral aspects should be a concern. Imagine a pharmacist asking a customer whether his Viagra prescription is to enhance sexual performance in his marriage or in an extramarital affair. Never!"
Ding-ding-ding!  We have a winner!

Although Jones-Nosacek says she may have lost patients over her stand, she thinks most are happy to hear her opinion. "I think most women feel life begins at fertilization," she says. "When they find out the Pill has a potential post-fertilization effect, they're surprised, and some rethink their decision."
Wait.  So, women who are taking the Pill, in order to prevent pregnancy, are being informed by these medical practitioners that the pill...is working?  Wow!  What an amazing breakthrough!  And what is the response of these women to this newfound knowledge that sometimes an egg gets fertilized, but can't implant (because of the Pill) and they are successful in controlling their own reproductive choices, which is what they were trying to do in the first place?  Why, I imagine, the ones who are sensetive to the particular manner in which a particular form of birth control does its job will certainly switch to a different form of birth control which, well, still prevents pregnancy in much the same way.

So...I have a solution to all this consternation over exactly how pregnancy is prevented (not aborted).  I have an idea that should satisfy even the most ardent of anti-choice wonks:  ASS FUCKING!  Ass fucking will NEVER cause pregnancy (even the not-really-preganant Bonk Job "pregnancy" of a fertilized-but-completely-unviable egg).  Ass fucking does not harm fertilized eggs.  Ass fucking does not kill babies.  Boys and girls, ass fucking is good for the environment!  Why by a hybrid Civic when you can ass fuck your way to a greener planet!  On the downside, it can be quite painful for some women.  But wait!  This is a good thing, right?  Fundie Bonk Jobs should really be able to sink their teeth into the whole more-pain-for-women caveat.  After all, these are the same people who would refuse the Pill to women as a means of alleviating blindingly painful menstrual cramps.  More pain for women?  Yes!  Wonderful!  Let's do that!
